Balloon

Also called: balloons · latex balloon · party balloon · burst balloon · popped balloon · balloon piece · balloon pieces · deflated balloon

Dog

Dangerous

Described signs

If it is swallowed whole or in one piece and lodges in the throat: sudden distress, retching, laboured breathing, drooling, pale or bluish gums and collapse. If the pieces go down: repeated vomiting that does not let up, regurgitation, refusing to eat, low energy, diarrhea, belly pain, straining to poop with no result and dehydration. Count the pieces of the burst balloon: what is missing is what matters, and the string or ribbon tied to it is a separate and worse hazard than the balloon itself.

Dangerous

Described signs

Repeated vomiting, retching, refusing food, drooling, low energy, hiding, belly pain and straining to poop with no result. If the balloon had a ribbon or string, look under the tongue: a thread showing is a different and worse emergency, and you must not pull it or cut it.
