Fish hook

Also called: fishhook · fishing hook · treble hook · barbed hook · fishing line · monofilament line · fishing lure · lure with hook

Dog

Dangerous

Described signs

Heavy drooling, gagging, trying to swallow again and again without managing it, trouble swallowing, bringing food or water straight back up, coughing, pawing at the mouth, blood in the saliva, refusing to eat and pain when the mouth is opened. If the line went down too: vomiting that does not let up, belly pain and low energy. If line shows in the mouth, do not pull on it; the hook may be buried where you cannot see it.

Dangerous

Described signs

Drooling, gagging, swallowing with nothing there over and over, trouble swallowing, bringing food back up, pawing at the mouth, blood in the saliva, refusing to eat, hiding and low energy. The line usually goes first: if line shows in the mouth or at the anus, do not pull on it. A cat's gullet and gut are far narrower, so a small hook is already enough.
