Substances and their sources

Hydrogen peroxide

Also called: peroxide · 3% hydrogen peroxide · oxygen bleach · non-chlorine bleach

Dog

Dangerous

Described signs

with household peroxide, the 3% bottle, the usual picture is repeated vomiting with a lot of foam, drooling and skin or eye irritation if splashed; above 3% the product is corrosive and the picture changes: belly pain, vomiting blood from damage to the stomach lining and, as the source describes, air bubbles in the blood vessels. Non-chlorine bleaches and salon-strength peroxide, the 30 and 40 volume bottles, belong in that second group

Cat

Dangerous

Described signs

repeated vomiting, sometimes with blood, foamy drooling, belly pain, refusing food and low energy from damage to the stomach wall; also skin and eye irritation if splashed. In cats the household 3% bottle is enough: the source warns that giving hydrogen peroxide to a cat can be fatal
