Liver

Also called: chicken liver · beef liver · calf liver · pork liver · cooked liver · raw liver · liver pate · foie gras

Dog

Care needed

Described signs

Loose stools, diarrhea or vomiting after eating a good amount at once, because of the fat and the concentrated nutrients. Pâtés and foie gras add a lot of salt and fat, and many also contain onion or garlic, which is a good deal more serious: it damages red blood cells.

Described signs

With liver fed daily for weeks or months: a stiff, painful neck, little interest in moving, difficulty grooming and an unkempt coat. From a one-off portion, loose stools or vomiting from the fat. Pâtés and foie gras add salt and fat, and many contain onion or garlic, which is a good deal more serious in a cat: it is the species most susceptible to red blood cell damage.
