Paint
Also called: latex paint · acrylic paint · water-based paint · oil-based paint · varnish · tempera paint
Dog
Keep it away
Described signs
the most common is stomach upset: drooling, vomiting and diarrhea, with skin irritation where it landed; if oil-based paint or varnish is breathed into the lungs, coughing and trouble breathing. Separately: if the paint is old and is flaking or being sanded it may contain lead, and then the risk is far higher, because a chip the size of a thumbnail is enough to poison a dog of up to about 9 kg (20 lb) Very large amounts of water-based paint can also cause neurologic signs and kidney failure: some contain ethylene glycol.

drooling, vomiting and diarrhea, and skin irritation where it landed; if solvents from oil-based paint or varnish are breathed in, coughing and trouble breathing. Separately: old paint that is flaking or being sanded may contain lead, and in cats it is documented that they swallow the dust from sanding that paint while grooming, with a far more serious picture than this one Very large amounts of water-based paint can also cause neurologic signs and kidney failure: some contain ethylene glycol.
