Plastic bag

Also called: chip bag · snack bag · crisp packet · mylar bag · bread bag · cereal bag liner · pet food bag · bin bag

Dog

Dangerous

Described signs

With its head inside an empty bag: struggling, the bag stuck to the face and noisy or impossible breathing; without help it can suffocate, and this happens to big dogs too. If it is swallowed: repeated vomiting that does not let up, no appetite, low energy, belly pain, straining to poop with no result and bits of plastic in the vomit or the stool. In a small dog, a wrapper another dog would pass is already a plug.

Cat

Dangerous

Described signs

If it puts its head in an empty bag and cannot get it out, it can suffocate. If plastic or a wrapper with food on it is swallowed: repeated vomiting that does not let up, refusing food, low energy, hiding, pain when you touch the belly, straining to poop with no result and dehydration. A cat's gut is narrow: a small piece is already enough.
