Popcorn

Zea mays var. everta

Also called: popped corn · air-popped popcorn · buttered popcorn · salted popcorn · microwave popcorn · kettle corn · caramel corn · unpopped kernels

Dog

Care needed

Described signs

With bagged or movie-theater popcorn, loaded with butter and salt: vomiting, diarrhea, more thirst than usual and low energy. Unpopped kernels are hard and can break a tooth or cause choking, and the hulls get stuck between the teeth and in the gums. Sweet or sugar-free popcorn can contain sweeteners: check the ingredient list, because if xylitol is on it this is no longer mild, it is potentially lethal to a dog.
