Substances and their sources

Small toy part

Also called: toy parts · lego · lego brick · lego piece · building block · marble · marbles · plastic figurine

Dog

Dangerous

Described signs

Repeated vomiting that does not let up, regurgitation, refusing to eat, low energy, diarrhea, belly pain with a hunched posture, a tense belly, straining to poop with no result, little stool, dehydration and shock. If the piece was broken and has a sharp edge, add blood in the vomit or the stool, and fever. Watch the mouth too: a hard piece can fracture a tooth or wedge between the teeth or across the roof of the mouth. The dog's size changes everything: a Lego brick a German shepherd passes without noticing can block a Yorkshire terrier.

Cat

Dangerous

Described signs

Repeated vomiting that does not let up, regurgitation, suddenly refusing food, drooling, hiding, low energy, pain when you touch the belly, straining to poop with no result, little or no stool and dehydration. In a cat a very small piece is enough: its gut is far narrower than a dog's.
